As February faded into March, both Playa Blanca and Casa Blanca welcomed a new wave of energy. Mornings started cool and still, with the wind picking up slightly in the afternoons — averaging 10 mph from the east — creating dynamic conditions across the fishery.
At Playa Blanca, Ben and Lee took full advantage of the calm early hours, poling along the ocean-side flats and connecting with several bonefish in skinny water. Midweek, a spontaneous decision led Patrick to try a new river mouth — within minutes, a small pod of tarpon rolled through, and the chase was on.
Over at Casa Blanca, the mood was exploratory. David, a first-time guest, was visibly moved after sight-casting and landing their first permit — a quiet moment followed by hugs, cheers, and a shared beer on the skiff.
It wasn’t the most technical week, or the biggest numbers — but it was rich with discovery, learning, and the kind of surprises that make fly fishing endlessly rewarding.
